Golden Real Estate
Golden, a popular tourist destination in the State of Colorado, is situated along the Clear Creek found at the foothills of the Front Range of the spectacular Rocky Mountains. Here you will get a great mingling of mountain scenery and easy access to city amenities. Golden CO real estate is pleasantly varied and quite popular in this region of the state.
Golden was founded in June of 1859 at the time of the Pike’s Peak Gold Rush. It was originally named as the Golden City after Thomas L. Golden, a miner from Georgia and one of the earliest prospectors in the Jefferson’s County. The city has a long standing history wherein it served as the capital of provisional Territory of Jefferson between 1860 and 1861 and the capital of official Territory or Colorado from 1862 to 1867 before it was moved to Denver.
Golden is home to the Colorado School of Mines, a research university dedicated to engineering and applied sciences. The school was ranked at #29 in the list of Best Colleges in the United States in 2011. Well-known for its highly selective admission procedure, more than 10,000 students compete for its 875 places in the freshman class.
Other important landmarks located in Golden include the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, National Earthquake Information Center, the Coors Brewing Company and the famous Colorado Railroad Museum. Golden, Colorado is also famous for western showman and icon William F. "Buffalo Bill" Cody whose grave lies on Lookout Mountain. All of these great attractions are not just for tourists, but readily available to city residents and owners of Golden real estate as well.
Following its establishment as the gold-rush town, Golden soon became the economic and political center by virtue of it being the center for trade between the gold mines and the east. After the American Civil War which claimed much of its population and leading public, the trade and industry grew rapidly. By that time the city had flour mills, smelters, brick works and had the only paper mill west of Missouri, clay and coal mines, and also the Coors Brewery and had setup the first railroad in the Colorado Mountains. Today Golden is a thriving community offering opportunities and a great quality of life.
